Here are short talks that you can use for Sharing Time in Primary for the month of August:
Week 1: The Scriptures Teach Me How To Pray
Why is scripture study so important?
Elder David A. Bednar, in his 1998 talk, said: “Studying the scriptures is important because of the direction we need in our lives.”
Because of our nature, we cannot endure to the end without the Lord’s help. We need His teachings and His gospel to help us continue in righteousness – and all of these are found in the scriptures.
In the scriptures, we learn so many doctrines and principles that help us become strong in our earthly journey. One of the many things that we can learn is the proper way of prayer. In Matthew 6:9-13, the correct manner of prayer is taught. Knowing how to pray is such a great blessing as we know that this is the simplest yet the most powerful way that we can do to talk to our Heavenly Father and get closer to Him and Jesus Christ.
Week 2: Heavenly Father wants me to pray to Him often—anytime, anywhere.
In Doctrine and Covenants 10:5, we are counselled to pray always that we may conquer Satan.
This verse clearly states one of the reasons why we need to pray. Prayer is our tool against temptations and will help us become stronger to overcome challenges. We can pray for the Holy Ghost to guide us always and help us to be strong in choosing the right.
No matter where we are, whether we are in our bedroom, in the church, at our dining tables, at our farms, yards, or at school, Heavenly Father wants us to communicate with Him always. The more we pray to our Heavenly Father, the closer we get to Him. Sincere prayers of faith can bring mighty miracles into our lives.
Week 3 & 4: Answers to prayers come from Heavenly Father in many ways.
When we pray, we often ask for help, guidance, or confirmation. But how can we know the answers to our prayers?
The scriptures has cited a lot of ways in receiving answers from our Heavenly Father. Some of them are: through peaceful feelings, through thoughts in our minds and feelings in our hearts, through the actions of other people, and through the scriptures.
In Doctrine and Covenants section 112 verse 10, it says, “Be thou humble; and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers”.
While it is important to know the ways Heavenly Father gives His answers to our prayers, it is more essential to make ourselves humble and worthy always so we can identify when these answers come.
